Louisa Aarrass

QANAT

Louisa Aarrass is an agroecologist based between Morocco and France that began collaborating with Qanat in 2019. Using participatory research and photo-based work, she is interested in exploring the complexities of food systems by looking at plants and food, as substance as well as medium of communication, in their political and sociocultural roles. Documentation of traditional food preparation methods and recipes furthers her intrigue in the ways we self-identify through food. A background in agronomy and plant science is the source of her interest in productive landscapes and the way we interact with them. Projects Louisa has collaborated on within Qanat center on the ecologies and relationships within food systems, landscapes and culture. This focus found a first participative research ground in the workshop series “Entangled Ecologies” developed with the women's community of the Dar Bellarj Foundation (Marrakech), and as a training “Rooted - Uprooted”, part of the Trainings for the Not-Yet at BAK (Utrecht).
