Edouard Sors

QANAT

Edouard Sors joined Qanat in 2018 after a residency at the Maison Denise Masson dedicated to re-activating the khettara research he regularly digs into since his first professional stay in Marrakech in 2002. Besides his architectural background as a planner and his constructive and environmental expertise about qanats (2014 Hydrocity guest at Yazd ICQHS Center for Qanats, 2009 article about Haouz plain by T.Ruf and M.El Faïz, 2005 ARENE award handed by Phlippe Madec for ‘neo vernacular’ khettara design), Edouard shares his knowledge of water techniques and knowhow of participative tools, from water and land management to open source mapping... Alongside Qanat members, he participates to collective manifestations and actively uses three media (spoken and written wording, architectural and plastic design, graphic depiction and mapping) to elaborate an artistic action-research set : “Her-His-Story” (collection of words), “Wishing Well” (earth crucibles) and “Regards for the Aïn” (landscape and mindscape portraiture), all destined for people (Qanat attendees, Dar Bellarj participants or BAK trainees) to channel memory or word out impressions, to collect grounded items or foster ecological deeds and to look ahead while seeing behind. Edouard currently develops his ILUO protocols in three other waterscapes (Pointe de Caux, Luberon and Quercy) as well as in some participative building projects.
