Sara Frikech

QANAT

Sara Frikech started collaborating with Qanat in 2018. As an architect, she employs overlooked narratives and alternative lenses to explore issues connected to the built environment, and uses models, objects and installations as privileged forms to materialise her research. This was the approach that framed her research Sahrij, which, adopting water as a lens aimed at offering an alternative reading of the city of Meknes (Morocco). In dialogue with Qanat, some of the results of this research were presented as an exhibition at LE 18 in November 2019. In general, Sara’s work stems from an interest to understand the many layers of our hybrid realities, an angle that in the framework of Qanat has led her, in dialogue with Louisa Aarrass, Francesca Masoero and Noureddine Ezarraf to initiate a research line exploring the ecologies manifested in the entanglements between food, landscape formation and culture. This focus found a first participative research ground in the workshop Entangled Ecologies developed with the women community of Dar Bellarj (Marrakech) in July 2019, and in the Rooted - Uprooted one, part of the Trainings for the Not-Yet at BAK (Utrecht).
