Jérôme Giller

QANAT

Jérôme Giller, based in Brussels, uses walking as a method of artistic creation. He organizes collective walks following physical and cartographic lines of desire that he invites us to track and embody in order to take another look at landscapes. His practice as a walker led him to become interested in body movements and work gestures. He develops projects by summoning everyone's know-how and skills and pooling it in commun to create artistic works or situations.
Jérôme Giller started collaborating with Qanat in 2017. He has organized several walks in the territory of Marrakech by following water-lines (Talwoued Issyl, At the source) and the line of the administrative border of the city (On the edges of Marrakech). He has also led a workshop for the children of the Medina, In the pursuit of the Oasis, with Heidi Vogels. In 2018 and 2019, he developed a project with the women weavers of Angouan’s Cooperative in Aït Ourir to create a carpet on the poetics of water. The modern design of the carpet, woven with traditional Amazigh techniques, is the result of the intimate relationship that has been instored between him and the women during their research.
